Snakewood is an independent recording label and a publishing house specialized in baroque music. We seek to offer a high quality result, fleeing the market standards. Some of our guidelines are the recording of unknown repertoire and the support of our recordings with extensive musicological material. Our music editions are made by and for musicians, combining musicological fidelity and interpretative practicality.
Snakewood is also the name of a beautiful tropical wood widely used for the making of baroque bows. The making of a baroque bow is an art that requires high artistic and technical skills and a good knowledge of ancient practices. Likewise, the products of Snakewood Editions are crafted with a balanced combination of all these qualities.
The Cabinet II Project is an ambitious project that includes several CD recordings (mostly featuring world premiere recordings with 1717. Memories of a journey to Italy being the first CD), editions of unpublished scores, audio, videos and articles that accompany the discovery of a mostly forgotten repertoire contained in the private collection of Pisendel in the Dresden archive, known as Cabinet II.
