Pisendel – Sonata for violin and continuo in G minor
This edition is based on Pisendel’s autograph manuscript Mus.2421-R-15 from the Schrank II collection hold in the Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek (SLUB).
This sonata is a reflection of Pisendel’s compositional and instrumental skills. It is undoubtedly a sonata that tests the abilities of any violinist.
The manuscript contains many annotations, corrections, and other additions. This edition clarifies and puts these additions in context offering the performer an easy reading of all the information contained in the manuscript.
Two issues of importance are clarified in this edition: Pisendel’s annotations for ornamentation and the compositional corrections that Pisendel wanted to make on the sonata. Taking into account both issues, this edition opens the possibility of new interpretations of this work.
