Vivaldi – Sonata in C minor “per Pisendel” RV 6 (PDF)

The Sonata for violin and continuo in C minor RV 6 by Vivaldi is not just a work that demonstrates the originality and quality of the compositional art of Il Prete Rosso. It is also a valuable exponent of the bond that formed between the Venetian and the young Pisendel. There also exists another version of this work as the VII Manchester Sonata. Although both sources transmit the same work, the differences are significant. The Dresden version offers a more virtuosic violin part, while the Manchester version is more restrained. The basso continuo also differs notably: in Dresden, it appears with a more elaborate and complex design than in the English copy. This edition is based on the Dresden source.
